Canan Erek - Concept/Choreography/Direction
She began dancing with classical ballett in Ankara. She moved to Germany in 1987 to study contemporary dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen and graduated in 1991 under the direction of Pina Bausch. From 1992 to 1996 she continued her academic studies in choreography at the Ernst Busch Hochschule für Schauspielkunst in Berlin. After her studies she developed several pieces such as ‘Geschwindigkeitsfalle’, ‘E/m=c2’, ‘la fortune’, ‘fragile frame’ (awarded for the best dramaturgy at the ‘2. Internationales Solo-Tanz-Theater-Festival, Augsburg)’, ‘time(less)’ etc. 2004-2007 she was artistic director of ‘Leipziger Tanztheater’ in Leipzig. In this period the productions ‘jet room’, ‘LTT24’ and ‘failed’ originated. Since 2007 she is back in Berlin. Her last production was ‘tea for two’ at the Dogland Festival by Ballhaus Naunynstrasse. She has been in charge of several community- and education-dance projects, among others the dance project ‘Flug des Makam‘ within the Education-Programm of Berliner Philharmoniker. As guest-choreographer she has been working for Australian Opera in Sydney (Ariadne auf Naxos), Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam (Flucht Wege) and recently for Berliner Ensemble (Dona Rosita) directed by Thomas Langhoff.
2009 she compiled her piece CUPPA CHAR in collaboration with the composer Mark Andre in Berlin and performed attention rehearsal with the artist Warren Neidich in Rotterdam. |

Mark Andre - Composition
At the Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique de Paris (CNSMP) he studied composition, counterpoint, theory of harmony and musical analysis, in addition to conducting musical research. His instructors included Claude Ballif, Gérard Grisey and Helmut Lachenmann. Following his studies at the École Normale Supérieure, Paris (Ulm), and at the Centre d’Études Supérieures de la Renaissance, Tours, he graduated with an advanced degree in Musicology. Further studies (“Großes Kompositionsexamen”) followed under the supervision of Helmut Lachenmann at the Hochschule für Musik Stuttgart (with a scholarship from the French Foreign Ministry. He has been the recipient of numerous grants (Akademie Schloss Solitude, DAAD, Villa Medici, etc.) and several awards (Kranichstein Music Prize, International Composition Competition Stuttgart, Oper Frankfurt’s Composition Prize, a Berliner Kunstpreis award from the Akademie der Künste, etc.) He was presented the Orchestra Prize at the Donaueschinger Musiktage for the composition “… auf …” III, which was performed by the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg.
In 2009, he was installed as a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin and appointed as Professor of Composition at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden. In addition, he has held teaching positions at the Conservatoire National, Strasbourg, as well as at the Musikhochschule in Frankfurt/M.
His patrons include Ensemble Modern, ensemble recherche, Trio Accanto, Klangforum Wien, KNM Berlin, les Percussions de Strasbourg, Ensemble Alternance, EIC, etc. He lives in Berlin.

Ayako Nakano
Ayako was born 1985 in Tokyo, Japan. She learned modern dance and classical ballet. In 2004 she entered as a trainee "Noism" dance company by Jo Kanamori and after having become a member of the company she performed with her from 2005 to 2009. In 2009 she joined an Opera project choreographed by Lionel Hoche and produced in the framework of the Saito Kinen Festival by Seiji Ozawa (conductor). Since then she became a freelance dancer and worked in projects by Shintaro Oue in Sweden, Shlomi Frige in Israel and cellists Kaname Nezu and Tetsu Saito in Japan. |

Marcela Giesche
Marcela studied dance and choreography at the Rotterdamse Dansacademie and The Ohio State University where she received her BFA. She has danced for Bianca Van Dillen and Beppie Blankert in the Netherlands, Bruno Caverna (Brazil) and with Neuer Tanz / VA Wölfl in Germany. She has also been developing her own research in movement improvisation and choreography. Her own choreography has been presented in the USA, the Netherlands, Belgium and Norway. This summer she will attend the Impulstanz Festival in Vienna as part of the danceweb program. |

Sally Blatchford
In 2005 Sally completed a BA (Dance) at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) receiving the Finlay Dance Award. She has worked with choreographers and directors Gavin Webber, Michelle Ryan, Chrissie Parrott, Alice Lee-Holland, Aimee Smith and Lucy Suggate. In 2008 she choreographed on the first year dance students at WAAPA, Crossed Wires and has also collaborated with Shannon Riggs to create the works Three Lovely Ladies (2007) and Private Thought, Public Space (2008). |

Rebecca Lenton - Flute
Born in England, Rebecca studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, and at the Music Academy, Basel. She joined KNM Berlin in 2002 and formed KNM Ganesha together with Gudrun Reschke, Winfried Rager and Robin Hayward in the same year, commissioning several new works for this unique combination. Rebecca has performed throughout Europe with the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden, Klangforum Wien, London Philharmonic Orchestra. |

Winfried Rager - Clarinet
Born in 1966, Winfried grew up in Kißlegg, Allgäu in South Germany. He learnt the clarinet with Fritz Hauser and went on to study in Hannover with Hans Deinzer completing his degree in 1994. He has since performed all over Europe, specialising in contemporary music and joined KNM Berlin in 1995. He also plays with Ensemble Modern, Thürmchen-Ensemble Köln, ensemble aisthesis Heidelberg, Ensemble Est!Est!!Est!!! and Klangforum Wien. |

Gudrun Reschke - Oboe
On completing her studies in Berlin at the Hanns Eisler College of Music in 1992 Gudrun became principal oboist in the Staatskapelle at the National Theatre in Weimar where she played for four years. She also belongs to the internationally acclaimed wind quintet “Kammervereinigung Berlin“. Gudrun has been a member of the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin since 2002 and a member of KNM Berlin since 1992. She specialises in contemporary music and particularly enjoys working with composers, developing and commissioning new compositions. Gudrun plays in KNM Ganesha, founded in 2003, in which experimenting with and developing new sounds is at the forefront of their work. |

Janni Struzyk - Tuba
She studied tuba at the Hanns Eisler and Franz Liszt music academies in Berlin and Weimar, respectively. From 1998 to 2000 she was tubist with the Brandenburgische Philharmonie Potsdam. Since 1999, she has been solo tubist with the Orchester der Tiroler Festspiele. She has performed in several orchestras, including the Staatskapelle Berlin, Staatskapelle Weimar, Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg. From 1995 to 2009 she participated in the United Women’s Orchestra, performing at numerous festivals (most recently, Moers, Halle, Nijmegen, Lana) and recording various CDs.
Janni works primarily in the fields of contemporary music and experimental music theatre, and is frequently busy in the studio. In addition, she composed and realized theatre music pieces in Berlin, Potsdam and Brandenburg. |

KNM Ganesha
KNM Ganesha wurde 2002 von Mitgliedern des KNM gegründet. Das traditionelle Bläsertrio wird um ein zusätzliches Instrument erweitert, um in dieser ungewöhnlichen Kombination zu experimentieren. Die Tuba mit ihrem soliden Bassregister gibt dem heterogenen Holzbläserklang eine vierte Farbe und ergänzt die klanglichen Möglichkeiten des Trios. KNM Ganesha arbeitet als wahrscheinlich erstes Quartett in dieser Besetzung eng mit Komponisten zusammen, die eigens für diese Besetzung schreiben. Bisher entstanden Werke von Stefan Bartling, Daniel Göritz, Sven-Ingo Koch, Thomas Meadowcroft, Ana Maria Rodriguez, Tobias Schwenke, Walter Zimmermann und Helmut Zapf für KNM Ganesha. |

Lutz Deppe - Light Designer
After over eight years Lutz Deppe worked as a photographer for various labels and publishers. During that period he participated in several exhibitions in Berlin, Hannover and Cologne. In 1995 he worked the first time exclusivley with light. Together with Susanne Linke he realized the lighting for her dance film Märkische Landschaften. After that he assisted Jean Kalman for the Opera de Lyon. Since then he has worked with many dance companies and contemporary composers. With Yoshi Oidas The Maids he has won the ‘Time Out Award 2003" in London. In the last years you could see his light installations, for example at the EXPO 2000 or at the City de la Musique, Paris, in 2003. From 2004 until 2007 Lutz was teaching at the Hochschule fuer Kunst und Gestaltung in Zuerich. He teaches in workshops on light design in Germany and abroad. einS is the second collaboration of Canan Erek and Lutz Deppe. |

Thérèse Browne - Costume Designer
She was born in Limerick, Ireland. She studied fashion at the National College of Art in Dublin and at the Royal College of Art in London. Over the past 20 years she has been working internationally as a costume designer in opera, theatre and dance. |

Karin Kirchhoff – Dramaturgy
Since 1996 she worked as a freelance production manager in the field of contemporary dance and theatre for numerous institutions and companies, such as Berliner Festspiele, sophiensaele, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Jo Fabian/Department, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Tanzcompagnie Rubato and Anna Huber. As a dramatic advisor she was involved in several productions by the theatre company Freuynde + Gaesdte located in Münster/Germany (2000-05). From 2005 until 2008 she worked at the TanzBüroBerlin which is in charge of the improvement of infrastructure for dance in Berlin, cultural policy and public relations for dance.
Since the season 2008/9 she is directing an annual festival for contemporary dance, „Tanz! Heilbronn!“, presented by the Theater Heilbronn. She also worked as a dramaturg in Cuppa Char by Canan Erek in 2009. |
